Mosquito Dunks

Mosquito Dunks Are Here!

Mosquito Dunks samples are available FREE to Cedar Hill residents at Development Services located on the second floor of the Government Center (285 Uptown.) Proof of residency required. Limit one (1) per resident while supplies last. Registration is required upon pickup.

Mosquito Dunks are an environmentally safe and effective form of mosquito control that can be used in standing water not easily disposed (bird baths, ponds, flower pots, etc.) One dunk kills mosquito larvae for 30 days or more.

The City of Cedar Hill conducts mosquito control activities year-round but increases those efforts from April through October, the most active mosquito season in North Texas. The City coordinates with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) to conduct surveillance, trapping and testing of the mosquito population for diseases including West Nile Virus (WNV).

There are currently five Mosquito Management Areas in Cedar Hill where mosquitoes are trapped weekly and then taken to a Dallas County lab for testing. If a mosquito trap yields a positive result for West Nile Virus, Dallas County Mosquito Control will schedule an overnight spraying event in the affected management area beginning Sunday night.
